Rizla is an iconic paper with a rich heritage, dating back to 1660.

Pierre Lacroix is the driving force behind this paper. It is said that he is the first to perfect paper specially made for rolling. Irrespective, he had had experience trading his papers, and eventually gained enough skill to open a production mil in 1736.

Once the gum-line was added to the paper’s design in 1942, we would have the papers we come to love today. Rizla, since then, continues to innovate its papers. Rizla aligned themselves with music and artists from the music industry, as a campaign strategy of sorts. It is more than likely that this made the brand iconic. ALigning themselves with artists of the time made the brand synonymous with what was ‘cool’ for the time.

The use of coloured packaging can help consumers determine the kind of paper they may want. The colour of the packaging helps consumers identify the weight of the paper and its burn rate. Also, each colour variant has different paper sizes to choose from. For example: Single, Double, and Kingsize.

Blue is extra thin paper, harder to roll, but has a slower burn.

Red is a medium-weight paper, easy to roll.
